Migrating and Upgrading to Joomla! 5.x • Upgrade to J5

Hello,

My site runs on Joomla 4.4.5 with MySQL 5.7.44.

In order to upgrade it to J5, I should either upgrade MySQL version or switch to Maria DB.

If I change to MariaDB, will the site continue to function?

Or will an intermediate step, like backup/restore be necessary?

Please help!
